In order to avoid a very long drive, we chose to take the Autozug from Hamburg to Verona.  The kids looked forward to this overnight train for weeks.  We were all interested in the logistics of the train.

The trip was too short for us.  We were ready for many more games of Uno, but we arrived in Verona refreshed, and ready to be tourists.
